Skin hyperpigmentation

hyperpigmentationExcessive depositing of pigment in the skin is most often not indicative of any health issues; more often, it is simply an aesthetic concern.

The main agent that determines the color and evenness of the top layers of the skin is melanin, the body’s most important dyeing pigment. Melanin guards the body from the harmful effects of ultraviolet and infrared rays and protects the skin against burns and overheating.

Pigmentation can be caused by:

  • excessive exposure to sunlight, particularly in exposed areas of the face and body
  • skin traumas, including those that appear after cosmetic procedures
  • changes in the endocrine profile during pregnancy, from birth control use, and during menopause

  • Mesotherapy
